What makes this recording studio grade?

Not all acoustic foam is the same. The high-density option in this listing is independently rated at NRC 0.92 — meaning it absorbs 92% of incident sound energy — and has passed SGS environmental testing for safety and material quality. This puts it in the same performance category as foam used in professional recording studios, control rooms, and broadcast facilities, at a fraction of the cost of professional acoustic panels. The egg crate profile increases effective surface area per tile, and the 50 lbs per cubic yard density ensures the material has enough mass to capture sound rather than letting it pass through. For a recording studio, these two factors — absorption rating and density — are what separate foam that makes recordings sound better from foam that just looks like it should.

Choose your thickness

2.5 cm — 1 inch
Absorbs high-frequency reflections — reduces the bright, harsh sound of untreated studio walls at high frequencies. Good for spaces where the main problem is cymbal and vocal sibilance reflections.
5 cm — 2 inches ⭐ Recommended for recording studios
The professional standard — absorbs mid and high frequencies for clean, accurate recordings of vocals, guitars, drums, and all acoustic instruments. This is the thickness used in professional studio acoustic treatment.

Choose your density

Medium density
Light absorption — adequate for home decoration and general noise reduction. Not recommended for recording studio use — insufficient mass and absorption for professional acoustic treatment. Does not contain flame retardant.
High density ⭐ The recording studio choice
50 lbs per cubic yard. NRC 0.92. SGS certified. The only option for a recording studio — the density and absorption rating are what actually make recordings sound better. Contains flame retardant for safety in studio environments with electrical equipment.

Choose your pack size

6 tiles — 0.54 m²
Treat the single most critical surface in your studio — start with the wall directly behind the microphone
12 tiles — 1.08 m²
Cover the mic wall and one side wall — the standard minimum treatment for a functional home recording studio
24 tiles — 2.16 m²
Full primary wall treatment — covers all first reflection points for a properly treated recording studio environment

Perfect for these spaces

Who is this for?

Recording engineers and producers who need professional acoustic foam with verified specifications — the NRC 0.92 rating and SGS certification matter when you need to know exactly what you are buying. Home studio owners who have tried cheaper foam and found it made no audible difference — density and absorption rating are why, and this listing addresses both. Vocalists who record at home and need the wall behind their microphone treated to a standard that actually improves recordings. Podcast producers who need clean, dry audio for their audience. The high-density option in this listing is not a compromise — it meets the specifications used in professional studios and delivers results that cheaper, lower-density foam cannot. Custom studio layouts available — contact the store.

How to install in a recording studio

Step 1
Unpack and expand
Open vacuum packaging and leave in a ventilated space for 24–48 hours. Or soak in water, wring out, and blow dry for faster expansion.
Step 2
Treat first reflection points
The wall behind the mic, the ceiling above the recording position, and the side walls at mic height are your three priority surfaces — in that order.
Step 3
Cut if needed
Use scissors for 1-inch tiles. For 2-inch tiles use a sharp serrated knife — cut around cable management, equipment mounts, or wall fixtures cleanly.
Step 4
Mount and record
Apply included tape and press tiles firmly. Record a vocal take immediately — the improvement in room sound on the recording is audible on the first playback.

⚠️ Important note about white foam

White foam tiles will oxidize and turn yellow within 3–7 days of unpacking. This does not affect acoustic performance or noise insulation. For recording studios, black or grey are the standard choices — they do not discolor and maintain a professional studio appearance long-term.

Good to know before ordering

  • This listing has 1-inch and 2-inch options only — there is no 3-inch option
  • Available in 6, 12, or 24 tile packs — there is no 48-tile pack in this listing
  • Always choose high density for recording studio use — medium density does not deliver recording-grade absorption
  • High density is flame retardant certified — the safe choice for studios with electrical equipment and amplifiers
  • Tiles arrive vacuum-compressed — allow 24–48 hours after opening for full expansion
  • White foam turns yellow within 3–7 days — black or grey recommended for recording studios
  • Custom studio acoustic layouts available on request — contact the store for details
